“Gild the Lily”
Original Watercolor Painting by Michelle C. East
Artist Interpretation: The phrase “Gild the Lily” means to add ornament or decoration to something that is pleasing in its original state; to attempt to improve something that is already fine the way it is. It meant to paint a lily with gold. Why add paint to something that is already beautiful by design. The world tells women that they need constant improvement; that we are not beautiful “straight out of the box”, that we need embellishment. Don’t fall for worldly lies, you are beautiful just the way you are, just the way God made you. Psalms 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
