M.E. in a Nutshell

What do I do?

My name is Michelle C. East. As I was growing up, I watched my brother Mark Miller develop his amazing art skills. He and my great grandmother Elsie Patty were my inspiration to begin drawing in junior high and to eventually pursue an art career. I graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a BA in studio art and have worked as a graphic designer, freelance artist, and currently an art educator teaching 4th grade art through High School Art Classes.
Painting & Pottery-these are my passion! I am driven to create! Watercolor and acrylic painting are my favorite mediums to work in, but I also really enjoy the challenges of oil and mixed media as well. As an art teacher, I try to expose my students to many different mediums, both 2D and 3D. I believe this has also had an impact on my personal artwork. To me the joy comes in the process of creating.
Pottery has re-enter my life and I am continually working to improve my skills and challenge myself to create new pieces! Having a pottery wheel and kiln at our home now makes working with pottery incredibly easier and I am able to create much more!
I am drawn to realism, vibrant colors and natural pattern, these elements influence my work. I believe that the Lord Jesus has given me a talent & desire for art. It is my hearts desire that He be glorified in all I create.

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me“.

In addition to creating artwork, I am also an art educator at a private Christian school in Texas and writes the blog Create Art with ME.
